We are looking for motivated and high performing advisers to join our team. A passion for understanding human behaviour and putting it at the heart of government policy is essential. The Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (or BETA) applies research and methods from psychology and behavioural economics to deliver better outcomes for Australians. 

We seek to understand how people make decisions, develop innovative ideas for solving problems, and test what works best in the real world. We have delivered more than 70 projects on issues covering heath, education, financial decision-making, energy, cyber security and more. We know diverse teams produce the best and most creative work. 

The successful candidates will join a team of psychologists, economists, data analysts, social researchers, policy practitioners and design experts. We appreciate different skills and new ideas. You will have relevant academic qualifications in psychology, behavioural economics or a related discipline. 

You will need to demonstrate: 

  • Strong track record of successfully leading complex projects (including project development, delivery and communication of results)
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and clients
  • Excellent judgement and demonstrated understanding of how to apply behavioural insights to public policy
  • Ability to effectively manage and develop staff.

As part of your one page pitch you should also highlight your skills and experience in one or more of the following technical areas: 

  • Design and analysis of evaluations, experiments and/or surveys
  • Data analysis using a coding language (preferably R)
  • Qualitative research design and analysis

 
 
Eligibility:
 
To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen at the closing date of application. 

The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
