Advisers, Industry, Infrastructure and Environment Division

Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Government vacancies

The Opportunity:

Industry, Infrastructure and Environment Division offers fast paced and fascinating work on issues that matter to Australians and go to the heart of our country’s future. We advise the Prime Minister and Cabinet on a wide range of issues from infrastructure, to agriculture, industry, tourism, the arts, the environment, energy and climate change. We have a range of adviser vacancies across the division.

Working with a high degree of autonomy in flat team structures, advisers provide advice via email, respond to correspondence, develop briefing for the Prime Minister and his office, Live Issues Briefs, Senate Estimates Briefs, and PM briefings for Cabinet (including the Expenditure Review Committee and Policy Implementation Committee) and National Cabinet.

Our Ideal Candidates:

The successful applicant(s) will be critical thinkers, able to contribute their own ideas, and able to apply strong conceptual skills to a wide range of policy issues. We work in a dynamic and fast paced environment, so we are looking for people who work effectively under pressure and can balance a number of priorities. The successful applicants will be expected to exercise initiative and judgement and be motivated to deliver results. They will also have strong communication skills, be able to work through issues with colleagues and maintain productive working relationships. The ability to stay flexible in a rapidly changing environment and deal with uncertainty will be an advantage.

Our ideal candidate will also bring fresh thinking and a drive for continuous improvement in their work. As a condition of engagement successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance. Previous experience: For APS 5 applicants, no previous Government experience required. For APS 6 applicants, previous experience in Government will be an advantage (particularly involvement with Budget processes).

If unsure about the appropriate level to apply for, please refer to the APSC work level standards or get in touch with the contact officer to discuss. Applicants can only be interviewed for the level they apply for, so if in doubt seek consideration at both the APS 5 and APS 6 level.

What We Offer:

  • A flexible, diverse and inclusive workplace and attractive remuneration package including generous employer superannuation contributions,
  • Exciting and fulfilling work including career development and networking opportunities,
  • The opportunity to work with strong, smart, visionary and experienced leaders who encourage and support you to develop your interests and expertise and achieve your ambitions.
