About Us

Established in 2006, Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service (BWAHS) provides a range of services and programs to Aboriginal individuals and families who are experiencing, at risk of experiencing family violence, or use violence. Currently BWAHS is one of 4 Aboriginal specific state funded healing services in Victoria. 

BWAHS has skilled qualified staff and comprehensive experience with culturally safe delivery of child, youth and family services for Aboriginal people. They provide family violence risk assessment, safety planning, case coordination and support including referrals to the Risk Assessment Management Panel. They have developed an excellent record for providing high quality family violence and trauma informed Intensive Case Management, Integrated Family Services responses and evidence-based therapeutic programs to individuals and groups for a whole of family approach.

Boorndawan Willam, derives from the Wathaurong and Woiwurrung languages. Boorndawan (Wathaurong) meaning ‘safe’ and Willam (Woiwurrung) meaning ‘house’, combine to create a ‘safe house’. The healing service acknowledges the use of these words in the development of the organisations name.

What you'll do

BWAHS now has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Child & Youth Program Coordinator to join their team in Croydon, VIC,

Reporting to the Practice and Development Manager, your main responsibility will be to coordinate the development and delivery of educative, healing, therapeutic and cultural programs to Aboriginal Community members impacted by Family Violence at Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Services covering the Eastern Metropolitan region.

Core duties include (but are not limited to):

• Building partnerships with other relevant service providers to ensure increased access to programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women, children, youth and families;
• Engaging and consulting with cultural leaders and family violence experts in the development and delivery of Aboriginal cultural healing programs;
• Coordinating programs and services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women and children who are impacted by family violence; and
• Maintaining records including case notes, reports, plans and statistics within required timelines including data and reports required to meet BWAHS contractual obligations;

What we want from you!

To be successful in this role, you will to be a dynamic individual with a deep understanding of contemporary Aboriginal culture and the history of intergenerational trauma. You will need to have strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, problem-solve, and coordinate a variety of programs.

You will need to have proven experience working in indigenous community services, family violence or a related area. You will also need to have demonstrated understanding and comprehension of the issues underpinning family violence, particularly as it relates to the cultural context of women, children, and their families within the Aboriginal Community.

In this role, you will be required to supervise and coordinate the various programs offered by BWAHS. You will need to have the understanding and ability to work independently and as part of a team and have demonstrated experience in project management and the delivery of programs. Tertiary qualifications in social work, education, etc)., are highly desirable, although not required.

Please note: You will need to have a current Victorian Driver’s Licence, basic first aid certificate or be willing to obtain it and have completed a national police check and a working with children’s check.
