About the Organisation

The Central Land Council (CLC) is the Commonwealth Government statutory authority for the southern half of the Northern Territory – covering an area of almost 770,000 square kilometres. We consist of 90 elected Aboriginal representatives from the communities within CLC's nine regions and an additional 260 staff, approximately half of whom are Aboriginal.

Together we are responsible for providing a range of services for the benefit of traditional owners and other Aboriginal residents of the CLC region, including:

  • Providing a strong voice for the Aboriginal people of Central Australia;
  • Helping Aboriginal people get back country and manage their land, protecting Aboriginal culture and sacred sites;
  • Consulting with landowners on mining activity, employment, development and other land-use proposals;
  • Fighting for legal recognition of Aboriginal people's rights;
  • Helping resolve land disputes, native title claims and compensation cases; and
  • Running the permit system for visitors to Aboriginal land.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a devoted organisation promoting the rights of Aboriginal people across Central Australia. We help traditional landowners manage their land and make the most of its possibilities.
