Salary Range: $61,785 – $124,436 (PN: 20801)
An exciting opportunity exists for a Lawyer to join a small and dynamic team providing legal and policy advice to the President and Human Rights Commissioner. The successful applicant will be required to provide legal and policy advice on matters involving the ACT Human Rights Act 2004; review policy and law reform proposals in terms of their compliance with human rights standards; and prepare complex briefing materials, reports and submissions. The position also involves responding to enquiries from government agencies and members of the public seeking information on human rights issues; and participating in community and agency liaison forums on human rights. It may also entail assisting in litigation where the Commissioner is party to, or has been granted leave by courts to intervene in, matters. The ACT Human Rights Commission recruits for diversity. Eligibility/Other Requirements: Tertiary legal qualifications are essential. Prior to commencing in this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 may be required.
