About You

As one of RMIT's Student Counsellors, you will be part of a team of mental health professionals that ensure the delivery of timely, clinically sound mental health advice to students in face-to-face and e-modes of consultation. This role will see you facilitate the personal, emotional, social and educational transition and adjustment of students, and provide individual counselling with an emphasis on brief outcome informed interventions. This role will require you to work flexibly and cooperatively within a diverse and skilled team of specialists and other colleagues, and build strong working relationships, and regularly communicate with a range of internal and external contacts.

This role has a specific emphasis on collaborative approaches between Student Counselling and the Ngarara
Willim Centre to build on preventative measures to enhance and support the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

To be successful in this position, you'll have experience of but not limited to:

* Proven experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with a demonstrated understanding and commitment to diversity, inclusion and reconciliation;
* Brief, outcome informed counselling approaches, including strong assessment, intervention and referral skills;
* Working with high risk clients and in assessment and treatment of complex mental health issues;
* Working cooperatively, productively and flexibly in a team environment, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and oral;
* Experience in client outcome evaluation, with a high level of computer literacy skills;

Qualifications

Mandatory:

* Post-graduate qualifications in Psychology or Social Work, ideally with significant time post qualifica
tion and relevant experience in counselling and case management;
* Membership of Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
