ABOUT THE ROLE
The Grade V Criminal Solicitor in Grants will:
• Assess, process and determine complex applications for grants of legal aid across a range of Commonwealth and State criminal law matter types, within Legal Aid NSW policy and available funds to meet the intent of the legal aid program and ensure delivery of high quality client service.
• Supervise Legal Officers in the section (including information dissemination and staff consultation on relevant matters) and lead staff in the delivery of high quality client-focused services.
• Provide training to Legal Officers and Grants Officers in relation to Commonwealth and State criminal law matters, including developing and conducting in-house training programs.
• Review, recommend and provide a consultative and advisory service on complex and potentially costly applications for legal aid involving but not exclusive to issues of merit, to meet the intent of the legal aid program and the broader role of the Legal Aid NSW.

We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated criminal lawyer who:
• Has strong communication skills

• Is able to confidently and promptly make accurate determinations in accordance with policy

• Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW

About the Goulburn Valley Regional Training Hub

About the Role
This is a fixed term position until the end of 2024. Working closely with an academic lead, the Manager GVRTH oversees the operational direction of all GVRTH programs and initiatives to meet the requirements of the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program.
The Manager, GVRTH will develop and implement programs, monitor progress throughout the year, evaluate outcomes and make recommendations for change. This position manages a small team of three professional staff to develop and implement the objectives of the program.

You will also advocate for our clients about entitlements, debts and unfair contracts and work alongside them to achieve a sustainable financial position.
Some of the things you will be doing day-to-day will include:
- Develop well-formulated case plans that help your clients work towards their financial resilience goals and build an understanding of the connections between money and wellbeing;
- Negotiate payment plans, debt waivers and reductions for clients with creditors and external dispute resolution bodies;
- Advocate for and ensure that clients are receiving correct payments, entitlements and concessions;
- Work with individuals, families and other colleagues/support workers from a holistic, trauma-informed perspective to address issues underlying financial stress; and

About the Role
The incumbent will work closely with the project editors, Dr Ross Jones, Associate Provost Professor Marcia Langton, Dr James Waghorne and project management staff in the Indigenous Strategy team (Chancellery Academic) to produce an Indigenous History of the University of Melbourne for publication. The incumbent will also work with a range of internal and external contributors/researchers to produce a range of other outputs e.g. a platform/resources for a range of educative purposes (such as a breadth subject; contributions to the Student Life ‘Discovery Subjects’ initiatives, cultural awareness training).
The Indigenous History of the University of Melbourne Project is Indigenous-led: guided by a Steering Committee and chaired by the Pro Vice – Chancellor (Indigenous), focussing on the University’s institutional and colonial history and relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, addressing its complicity with respect to eugenics and scientific racism and possible connections to slavery.
This project represents the University’s commitment to Place as a core focus of its Advancing Melbourne strategy, recognising ‘..the importance of our relationship with the Traditional Owners of the lands on which our campuses are located and commits the University to foster reconciliation as a national project of the highest importance’. Likewise, our Reconciliation Action Plan, April 2018 – December 2022 (RAP 3) recognises the opportunity to improve the lived experiences of not only the University’s Indigenous community, but the wider community through promoting Indigenous cultural recognition.

About the Role
The Australasian Centre for Italian Studies (ACIS) and the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne offer a two-year ACIS Postdoctoral Fellowship in Italian Studies. The field includes Italian disciplines in the humanities and social sciences such as Italian language and literature, Italian linguistics, visual and performance studies (Italian art, cinema, television, theatre, music), Italian history, Italian art history, Italian sociology, Italian anthropology, Italian migration studies, and Italian politics. The Fellow can therefore collaborate with any relevant School or programme in the Faculty of Arts.
The successful applicant will have an emerging track record of research on, engagement with, and clear interest in, Italian Studies well aligned to the research strengths of the Faculty of Arts. They will demonstrate a commitment to working collaboratively in research groups, with colleagues, students and partners, as a proactive member of the Faculty’s core academic community.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, Research, and receiving formal mentorship from a relevant discipline Chair, the postdoctoral position’s primary focus is on research (at least 0.8 full time equivalent), but the candidate may also contribute to the undergraduate teaching programmes of their allied discipline area (no more than 0.2 full time equivalent).
About You
You will have an emerging track record of research publications engaged with Italian Studies issues and debates, and a clearly articulated research proposal with an aspect of Italian Studies as its main focus. To be eligible for this role you will need Australian or New Zealand citizenship; or Australian or New Zealand permanent residency; or hold an Australian Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) expiring after the end of 2023.

ABOUT LEGAL AID NSW
Legal Aid NSW is the largest legal aid agency in Australia, comprising of a Central Sydney office and 28 regional offices in metropolitan and regional centres across NSW and a number of specialist services and advice clinics. It was established under the Legal Aid Commission Act 1979 as an independent authority to assist economically and socially disadvantaged people to understand and protect their rights in the legal system. People with disabilities, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, women and children, Indigenous people and people with mental illness are some of the groups who may experience difficulties when enforcing and defending their rights.
Working in partnership with private lawyers, Legal Aid NSW provides free legal advice, information and minor assistance and legal representation to eligible people in many areas of law. Legal Aid NSW also provides alternative dispute resolution services, community legal education programs, publications on legal issues. The core business hours of LawAccess NSW are 9.00am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the team leader, the responsibilities of Information Officer – Legal include:
• Providing timely and accurate legal information and referrals to members of the public through telephone and chat service channels.
• Developing and maintaining sound knowledge of legal information, analysing and responding to questions appropriately.
• Recording and maintaining accurate information regarding customer enquiries and assistance services.
• Participating in developing, maintaining and improving the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database, LawAccess Online, legal information resources, referral protocols and office processes.
• Perform administrative, clerical or research duties.
• Law Access NSW utilises audio call recording for coaching and quality assurance purposes.
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role you will have an understanding of the legal system and the legal issues confronted by customers. Your commitment to and experience in providing excellent customer service to a diverse range of customers is essential. You will possess excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution. You must demonstrate the ability to use initiative and problem solve, be a team player as well as be able to work individually. You must display resilience and emotional intelligence in challenging situations and you must be able to Work to a schedule / roster in line with LawAccess NSW contact centres performance standards.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or working with Children Check.
• Hold Australian or NZ citizenship or Australian Permanent Resident is an essential requirement of applying for an Ongoing role.
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement.
