ABOUT THE TEAM

 

The Civil Law Service for Aboriginal Communities (CLSAC) is a specialist team within the Civil Law Division that delivers targeted and holistic legal services by phone and outreach to identified disadvantaged Aboriginal communities and correctional centres across NSW. The CLSAC service to prisons includes the Aboriginal Women Leaving Custody service which is aimed at addressing legal barriers to housing faced by Aboriginal women in prison.

 

CLSAC is a multi-disciplinary team that aims to provide high quality advice and casework services to Aboriginal people that deliver better outcomes for people’s everyday lives. It works with Aboriginal communities and community workers to increase their capacity to deal with civil law problems as they arise and to work in partnership with other legal and non-legal services.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

 

A Grade I-III Legal Officer in the Civil Law Division will: 

• Provide a high quality advice, minor assistance and casework services in areas such as stolen generations, consumer, mental health, human rights, employment, housing, immigration, social security, and/or coronial inquests, or other areas of civil law

• Deliver efficient and effective targeted legal services to disadvantaged Aboriginal clients 

• Comply with the Legal Aid Commission Act, policies and practice management standards and undertake all related administrative and case management activities

The successful applicant will be a lawyer who has experience working with Aboriginal clients and communities and has a passion for addressing the social justice issues facing communities across NSW.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW

• Ability to provide a valid Practising Certificate upon commencement

• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or Working with Children Check

• Current driver's licence

• Thorough understanding and knowledge of working in Aboriginal communities

About You

In alignment with RMIT's change principles, as Change Manager, you will be accountable for developing and leading the change management strategy, plans and interventions across a portfolio of large and small projects, supporting leaders in the design, communication and delivery of all change readiness activities and engaging stakeholders.

One of our key research partners is the Future Fuels Cooperative Research Centre (FFCRC). FFCRC is the industry focussed Research, Development & Demonstration (RD&D) partnership enabling the decarbonisation of Australia's natural gas networks and working with partners in a collaborative and connected research community embracing industry, academia and government.

This position is specifically linked to FFCRC project RP2.1-10 Understanding householder electricity and gas practices – Managing the transition of vulnerable customers towards future fuels. Responding to the industry need to better understand how people use and trade off gas and electricity in their homes, this mixed methods study will explain householder energy consumption patterns and practices, how they feel about and respond to different energy sources, and how these are shaped by, or shape, vulnerability and affordability. The project involves multiple methods, including detailed monitoring of indoor temperatures, gas and electricity use in 48 households selected on the basis of specific demographic characteristics and collection of qualitative audio-visual and interview data regarding household energy use practices.

The successful candidate will work full time on the project for a period of 25 months, supported by other senior research academics from within the School and a keen group of industry advisers. Key tasks include liaison with industry to recruit householders to the study, building relationships and conducting householder interviews and integrating quantitative and qualitative data regarding energy use as well as report writing and general project management.

The position will require 3 days teaching, 1 day Administrative and 1 day from home.

* Current TAE Cert IV Qualification

* Knowledge and recent industry experience working within Building & Construction

* Effective interpersonal and communication skills relevant to teaching and consultancy environments. This includes effective presentation and facilitation skills, and in the use of flexible teaching methods.

As a Financial Counsellor, you will provide information, referral, advocacy and other financial counsellor services to clients of the Domestic Violence Unit and other female clients of Legal Aid NSW who are experiencing or have experienced family violence.

ABOUT YOU

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide effective and trauma informed financial counselling services to clients of the Domestic Violence Unit and other female clients of Legal Aid NSW in accordance with legislation and directions, policy, guidelines and practice standards;
  • Effectively utilise Legal Aid NSW electronic case management/tracking/reporting systems and databases and provide accurate statistical and other information about work carried out;
  • Develop and deliver financial literacy education to assist and empower clients to gain an improved ability to manage their financial affairs;
  • Keep up to date on developments in the financial counselling sector and identify/attend training as required;
  • Partner with legal officers and domestic violence workers to provide coordinated financial counselling and legal case management.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or working with Children Check

• Holding Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency is an essential requirement for ongoing employment 

• Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency or hold a valid working visa for temporary employment

About the Department of Rural Health
The Department of Rural Health is a department within the Melbourne Medical School at the University of Melbourne. The Department is based in Shepparton, Ballarat, Bendigo (in partnership with Monash University and La Trobe University) and Wangaratta and has associations with more than 40 smaller rural towns in Victoria. The key purpose of the Department is to provide professional health education and research training in a rural context with an aim to increase the rural health workforce.

The Department works closely with the local community and healthcare partners to ensure that we remain relevant and connected. Our partnerships underpin our teaching and research. The Department of Rural Health is funded primarily by the Australian Government Department of Health’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program. The Department works towards this goal with various programs including: The Rural Clinical School, the University Department of Rural Health and The Goulburn Valley Regional Training Hub.

About the Role
This is a fixed term position until the end of 2024 and will be based in either Shepparton or Wangaratta. While this appointment is full time, there is flexibility to appoint at 0.8 FTE (salary will be pro rata for part time). 

The Administration and Events Officer is responsible for the administration of the daily operations of the Goulburn Valley Regional Training Hub (GVRTH) including; administration, event coordination and communications support.

The Administration and Events Officer will provide support to the implementation of the Regional Training Hub program by working with students, local health services, regional training organisations, general practice colleges, post graduate medical councils to support the integration of medical training at the local level.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Schedule and coordinate online and face to face meetings.
  • Track Hub expenditure and review monthly transactions.
  • Contribute to planning and organising events. Including sourcing quotes, booking venues, organising catering, booking travel and accommodation.
  • Support the Engagement Officer with event promotion including creating power point presentations, flyers, posting social media posts and updating website content.  

About You
Your strong communication skills will allow you to liaise with a range of people at all both externally and internally at all levels of the organisation. Providing quality customer service will be a passion of yours, able to do so within a complex working environment. You will have well developed organisation and time management skills, which allow you to complete multiple competing tasks to a high level within set deadlines. Experience with the University of Melbourne's systems and familiarity with relevant policies and procedures is desired, but not essential. 

Some work out of normal business hours may be required to support some events and functions.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • Completion of a degree, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated initiative and strong problem solving skills with the ability to deliver creative solutions.
  • High level of proficiency in the use of standard application software such as the Microsoft Office suite
