About the Role

The Postdoctoral Fellowship offers the opportunity to work across the Melbourne Centre for Cities and the Faculty of Arts on issues to do with cities and urbanism, both nationally and internationally.

Established in September 2021 as a flagship initiative of the University of Melbourne, the Centre brings together staff and students from several faculties, including Architecture, Building and Planning, Science and Arts. The Centre offers a multidisciplinary platform designed to foster individual and collaborative research centred on cities, build link with other Centres nationally and internationally, and to encourage partnerships between academic researchers and key stakeholders currently shaping the development and future of cities.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Develop, conduct and coordinate a program of research centred on cities and urbanism.
  • Engage proactively with the Melbourne Centre for Cities and the Faculty of Arts community, leadership, fellows, associates, doctoral group and visitors.
  • Participate in the life of the Centre and the Faculty of Arts through attendance at meetings, research forums, seminars and symposia, and through fostering internal and external collaborative endeavours around cities and urbanism.
  • Collaborate with Centre and Faculty colleagues and students in relevant research areas, leading and contributing to high-quality publications and other scholarly outputs in accordance with the research expectations of a Level A academic in the Faculty of Arts.

About You

The successful applicant will have an emerging track record of research on, engagement with, and clear interest in cities and urbanism well aligned to the mission of the Centre and the research strengths of the Faculty of Arts.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • PhD in a relevant Humanities and Social Sciences discipline
  • A research profile of work in cities and urbanism aligned to the Centre’s mission in one or more of the following areas: urban governance and urban policy; historical aspects of urban development; social dimensions of urbanism and cities; urban space; theories of urbanism; cities as sites of culture
  • Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills
  • Interest in building collaborative academic relationships and partnerships in relevant public and private organisations central to the governance of cities

The Training and Development Centre Coordinator is accountable to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, and is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all operational activities and functions of the AHCWA Training and Development Centre (TD&C). This includes developing and maintaining quality, safety, risk, compliance and governance systems, to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the TD&C.

The occupant will work collaboratively with a wide range of people from within and beyond the organisation to achieve quality improvements and strategic goals and act as a resource for all employees within the organisation on quality, risk and safety issues.

The Training and Development Centre, which became a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in 2008, delivers a number of accredited and non-accredited qualifications and workshops providing culturally appropriate education and training to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people across Western Australia.

The Training and Development Centre Coordinator will formulate policies, based on sound risk management principles, and in accordance with delegated authority, to manage the compliance assessment of the AHCWA RTO against regulatory requirements.

Ideally, in addition to be above, we are looking for someone who:

* Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is accepted as such by their community.
* Has experience working within a Registered Training Organisation, including exposure to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), National VET Regulator (NVR), VET Fee Help and WA state funding obligations and standards.
* TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent competencies).
* Excellent liaison, verbal and negotiation skills, including the ability to effectively deal with a diverse range of clients, stakeholders and authorities.
* Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the VET Quality Framework, and/or AQF, NVR, VET Fee Help and WA state funding obligations and standards.

The position involves working within a multicultural organisation where the majority of employees, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. About You

About the opportunity 
 
The Senior Lecturer position has been created to support students in the Extended Bachelor Program commencing in 2022. This is a four-year degree for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to undertake studies in an academically and culturally supported environment. It provides students with an opportunity to make connections between in-depth discipline study and knowledge of culture and practice.
 
The degree includes a 12 month ‘Foundation year’, comprising foundational literacy and mathematics within the following new structures: Bachelor of Arts (Extended); Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Extended); and Bachelor of Science (Extended).
 
One additional year of study is offered in Block Mode (‘Away From Base’) to enable students to enjoy their learning in a supportive environment being gradually introduced to life on campus at The University of Sydney.
 
The Senior Lecturer – Extended Bachelor Program position sits within the Sydney School of Education and Social Work (SSESW) at the University of Sydney. The successful applicant will support students within the Bachelor of Arts (Extended) and Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended), working in collaboration with another student experience coordinator based in the Faculty of Science.

About the Organisation 

Established in 2006, Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service (BWAHS) provides services and programs to Aboriginal people and families experiencing or at risk of experiencing family violence. Currently, BWAHS is one of 4 Aboriginal specific state-funded healing services in Victoria. 

BWAHS has skilled, qualified staff and comprehensive experience with the culturally safe delivery of child, youth and family services for Aboriginal people. They provide family violence risk assessment, safety planning, case coordination and support, including referrals to the Risk Assessment Management Panel. They have developed an excellent record for providing high-quality family violence and trauma-informed Intensive Case Management, Integrated Family Services responses and evidence-based therapeutic programs to individuals and groups for a whole of family approach.

Boorndawan Willam derives from the Wathaurong and Woiwurrung languages. Boorndawan (Wathaurong), meaning 'safe' and Willam (Woiwurrung), meaning 'house', combine to create a 'safe house'. The healing service acknowledges the use of these words in the development of the organisation's name. 

About the Opportunity

BWAHS is currently seeking a Women's Counsellor to join their Family Violence Therapeutic Program team, based at their new Croydon, Melbourne office.

Reporting to the Practice and Development Manager, provide individual counselling and family therapeutic counselling sessions for women impacted by family violence and intergenerational trauma.

Core duties: 

  • Undertake intake and assessment 
  • Deliver individual and family therapeutic counselling sessions
  • Identify family violence risks and strategies to support safety and the healing journey
  • Collaborate and consult with ACF and BWAHS practitioners to reduce identified barriers and support clients to attend therapeutic groups and programs.
  • Identify opportunities to support a strong positive connection between participants and their families, culture, Country and Community to promote healing and recovery. 
  • Coordinate therapeutic services for women in the program, liaising with existing support services and regularly discussing individual plans with the women and the care team.
  • Support the development of and facilitation of structured group and family sessions where appropriate for women, children and families/carers

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, family therapy, or similar. You will also have demonstrated experience in the family violence sector or related areas.

You will need a clear understanding of the history of intergenerational trauma, including the issues underpinning family violence and therapeutic interventions in an Aboriginal cultural context.

You will be an approachable and empathetic communicator capable of adapting your approach to each individual. You will be able to engage women and families of varying ages, stages, and situations with complex needs. 

You will be able to work both autonomously and as part of a diverse, driven team. Confident creating and maintaining solid relationships with other service providers or relevant organisations, you will support positive connection between participants and their families, culture, Country and Community, promoting healing and recovery.

Finally, you will need to demonstrate a practical understanding of the legislative, policy, and practice requirements of Aboriginal children, families, and communities impacted by family violence. You will also be able to work within these requirements and use a range of basic computer programs.

Please note: You will need to hold or be willing to obtain a current National Police Check and Working with Children Check. You will also need a current Driver's License.

The Role

In this exciting role as Coordinator, HDR Partnership Agreements, you will be responsible for supporting and improving processes to ensure increased opportunities for HDR candidates that enhance the diverse career paths they may choose. These opportunities are primarily focused on engagement with global partners and research end-users (such as government, industry, commercial, and not-for-profit organisations) via collaborative research projects and internships.

You will also responsible for providing advice about the development of new partnerships, such as the feasibility of the proposal, and input into the development of agreements. In addition, you will oversee the agreement lifecycle and will ensure that appropriate governance and quality assurance is in place.

About You

To be successful in this position, you'll have as a minimum:

* Must identify as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person.

* Clear understanding of the Australian tertiary education environment with demonstrated experience in industry engagement and/or international education.

* Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills to identify, develop, and implement improvements to the customer experience.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation skills and the ability to develop content, process maps, and comprehensive management reports for internal and external stakeholders.

* Highly developed organisational and time management skills, and the ability to assess priorities, exercise discretionary judgment, and work through multiple tasks simultaneously and under pressure.

* Strong focus on customer service and attention to detail.

* Experience and demonstrated aptitude in working using an agile mindset in a fast-changing and dynamic team, including working through ambiguity.

A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent combination of qualifications and relevant work experience.
