ABOUT THE ROLE

 

The Work and Development Order Service is a specialist service of the Civil Law Division who:

 

  • provides advice, minor assistance and referral options for clients with fines;
  • provides advice, minor assistance, training and support to organisations and health practitioners who are WDO sponsors and potential sponsors;
  • works in partnership with Revenue NSW and Department of Communities and Justice to ensure the WDO Scheme is administered responsibly and in line with community expectations; and
  • contributes to law and policy reform in the fines law space.

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic paralegal who has experience working with Aboriginal People and Communities. You will provide legal support to the WDO Service to ensure the provision of accurate, timely and quality legal services to clients with fines; support the expansion of the WDO Scheme across NSW and build the capacity of existing WDO Sponsors to support their clients.

 

ROLE NOTES

 

This is an Aboriginal Identified ongoing part-time role (21 hours per week). We are committed to offering a flexible and inclusive workplace including the option to work from home. The hours/days are negotiable.

Aboriginality is defined by decent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. ABOUT YOU

 

The successful applicant will have a passion for supporting clients with complex needs and will be able to work as part of a team. You will be committed to working with stakeholders, organisations, and health practitioners to improve legal outcomes for clients with fines debt, especially Aboriginal People.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

• Aboriginality (for Aboriginal Identified roles).

• Understanding and knowledge of working in Aboriginal communities.

• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or Working with Children Check.

• Applicable to non-Aboriginal applicants: Hold Australian or NZ citizenship or be an Australian Permanent Resident (essential for ongoing vacancies). Candidates who hold a valid working visa can be considered for future temporary vacancies if being placed onto the talent pool. 

• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement.

1. This role requires the provision of services to clients with complex needs including clients who are in financial hardship, homeless, have mental health issues, suffering from addiction or are victims of domestic violence. Give examples that demonstrate your experience supporting clients with complex needs.

 

2. The Work and Development Order Service works closely with Aboriginal Communities and Organisations. What skills and experience do you have that make you suitable for this work?

The selection process will include a range of comparative assessment techniques to assist in determining capability and suitability for the role.

This recruitment will be used to fill any current vacancies and may be used to create a Talent Pool for similar future temporary or ongoing vacancies that may arise over the next 18 months, both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal Identified.
