About the Melbourne School of Professional and Continuing Education (MSPACE)

The Melbourne School of Professional and Continuing Education (MSPACE) works to broaden the University’s educational offerings in an increasingly competitive global environment for talent and skills.

MSPACE provides an institutional focal point for the development, delivery and promotion of professional, continuing and executive education programs and services for all academic divisions of the University.

MSPACE supports academic divisions to develop and deliver award and non-award education through a range of teaching and learning delivery modes and seeks to broaden opportunities for engagement in a variety of professional sectors.

In order to contribute towards these objectives, MSPACE supports and expands the University’s professional, continuing and executive education initiatives through the provision of a coherent, whole-of-University framework.

About the Role

The role will work across multi-disciplinary teams to gather data and articulate market feasibility, opportunities, and product solutions that meet market demand and needs. Working with internal and external stakeholders, the Product Manager will identify and guide market research responses, identify market opportunities, and articulate industry and customer needs in the form of business cases and product propositions.

The position acts across a range of complex content, structure, policy and operational issues. The Product Manager is responsible for the successful development of the Melbourne MicroCert product portfolio. The incumbent must engender support and advise key staff within the School of trends and best practice as appropriate. Frequently working with internal and external stakeholders, the incumbent will deliver outcomes which are cognisant of broader University and School aims and activities.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Work in collaboration with key stakeholders, both industry contributors and academic subject matter experts, to define market problems, needs and opportunities, market size and characteristics, market share, and to formulate product value propositions for defined audiences.
  • Actively engage and build relationships with key industry contacts, using feedback to shape course offerings and test proposals.
  • Work collaboratively with key academic stakeholders to define course structure, outcomes and points of difference for new micro-credentials.
  • Draw on research and conduct target audience workshops with academic stakeholders to define customer needs and micro-credential benefits that meets those needs.
  • Contribute to the portfolio and market strategies for MSPACE including pricing, promotion and distribution roadmap across the Melbourne MicroCert portfolio of products and deliver all products in line with brand values and quality aspirations of UoM.

About You

You are a problem solver who is excited by a challenge, and you thrive when you’re part of a cross-functional team. You have strong project management skills, and value using data analysis when it comes to creating solutions, rolling out new features, and addressing business needs.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in business, marketing or another related field; or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience in account service, course development or product marketing; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience within the education sector.
  • Well established project management skills, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to use initiative and responsiveness in planning and developing new ideas and approaches to ensure organisational objectives are achieved.
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and influence a range of stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
