Salary: $69,148 to $93,830 p.a. plus 9.5% superannuation
The Australian Venom Research Unit (AVRU), University of Melbourne, has a position for a highly motivated research assistant. The successful applicant will work as part of the team in AVRU’s Proteomics and Antivenomics Laboratory, utilising an integrated “-omics” approach, combined with bioassays and other techniques to characterise venoms and antivenoms. This work forms the core of AVRU’s basic research agenda, and contributes to studies including (but not limited to) investigations of the evolution of snake venoms, the production of venom and antivenom reference standards, and the design of novel biotherapeutics for the treatment of envenoming.
The successful candidate will hold an Honours or Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline and have experience/knowledge of wet lab procedures involved in protein chemistry and related areas of research. They will be motivated to work as part of a team in a complex and challenging research environment and be prepared to develop new skills. Applicants with relevant experience and qualifications, and especially those with interests in protein chemistry, immunology, haemostasis and/or toxinology, are encouraged to apply.
