The Indigenous History of the University of Melbourne Project is Indigenous-led: guided by a Steering Committee and chaired by the Pro Vice – Chancellor (Indigenous), focussing on the University’s institutional and colonial history and relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, addressing its complicity with respect to eugenics and scientific racism and possible connections to slavery.
This project represents the University’s commitment to Place as a core focus of its Advancing Melbourne strategy, recognising ‘..the importance of our relationship with the Traditional Owners of the lands on which our campuses are located and commits the University to foster reconciliation as a national project of the highest importance’. Likewise, our Reconciliation Action Plan, April 2018 – December 2022 (RAP 3) recognises the opportunity to improve the lived experiences of not only the University’s Indigenous community, but the wider community through promoting Indigenous cultural recognition.

- Support the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
