About the opportunity
The Senior Lecturer position has been created to support students in the Extended Bachelor Program commencing in 2022. This is a four-year degree for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to undertake studies in an academically and culturally supported environment. It provides students with an opportunity to make connections between in-depth discipline study and knowledge of culture and practice.
The degree includes a 12 month ‘Foundation year’, comprising foundational literacy and mathematics within the following new structures: Bachelor of Arts (Extended); Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Extended); and Bachelor of Science (Extended).
One additional year of study is offered in Block Mode (‘Away From Base’) to enable students to enjoy their learning in a supportive environment being gradually introduced to life on campus at The University of Sydney.
The Senior Lecturer – Extended Bachelor Program position sits within the Sydney School of Education and Social Work (SSESW) at the University of Sydney. The successful applicant will support students within the Bachelor of Arts (Extended) and Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended), working in collaboration with another student experience coordinator based in the Faculty of Science.

- demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures, including an understanding of the issues affecting people in contemporary Australian society and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- a PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or other higher professional qualifications appropriate to their discipline
- significant experience in supervising others and coordinating team activities
- an understanding of and ability to support an academic endeavour from curriculum design to producing leading research and providing a student enabling environment
- an established network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of the discipline, School/ Faculty and University
- deep and broad experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
- a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the higher education sector
- demonstrated excellence in research, scholarly activities relevant to the discipline and educational design and practice
- acknowledged at a national level as influential in expanding knowledge within the discipline and/or in pedagogical or curriculum innovation
