Legal Aid NSW is the largest legal aid agency in Australia, comprising of a Central Sydney office and 25 regional offices in metropolitan and regional centres across NSW and a number of specialist services and advice clinics. ABOUT THE ROLE

Provide legal advocacy in District Court Trials, Sentences and other Criminal Matters on behalf of Legal Aid NSW. Temporary roles at Central Sydney are for a period up to 3 years. Temporary roles at Dubbo, Newcastle, Wollongong and Lismore are for a period up to 12 months.

ABOUT YOU

The successful applicant will have extensive criminal advocacy experience and the ability to conduct both Jury and Judge alone trials. The successful applicant will also have extensive experience in undertaking mandatory case conferencing in EAGP matters.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

 

• Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW

 

• Ability to provide a valid Practising Certificate upon commencement

 

• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or working with Children Check

 

• Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Resident or hold a valid working visa

• cover letter (maximum 2 pages) responding to the following two questions:

 

1. Detail your experience in complex criminal matters.

 

2. Detail your experience in mentoring colleagues in a criminal law environment.

The selection process will include a range of comparative assessment techniques to assist in determining capability and suitability for the role.

This recruitment will be used to fill any current vacancies and may be used to create a Talent Pool for similar future vacancies that may arise over the next 18 months.
