Legal Aid NSW is the largest legal aid agency in Australia, comprising of a Central Sydney office and 28 regional offices in metropolitan and regional centres across NSW and a number of specialist services and advice clinics. ABOUT THE ROLE
The position is a 12 month parental leave backfill.
The Grade V Employment Senior Solicitor leads Legal Aid NSW’s employment law and workplace discrimination practice and manages the specialist Employment Law team (4 solicitors and a paralegal) based in Central Sydney. The team provides advice and representation (including litigation) to Legal Aid NSW clients and supports the Civil Law Division’s practice in key areas of employment and workplace discrimination law. The Grade V solicitor also maintains their own practice.
The Employment Law team contributes to Legal Aid NSW’s law reform and strategic advocacy projects. Their work involves collaboration within Legal Aid NSW (i.e. other Civil Law specialist services, the Criminal Law Division and the Strategic Law Reform Unit) and with external stakeholders (e.g. community legal centres and other NSW and commonwealth government agencies).
ABOUT YOU
The successful applicants will be someone with:
- Expertise in Employment law and discrimination law
- Expertise in litigation
- Experience leading teams working with disadvantaged clients and communities
- Experience in supervising staff
- Experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve improved outcomes for disadvantaged clients or communities
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Admission or eligibility for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
• Ability to provide a valid Practising Certificate upon commencement
• Willingness to undertake a Criminal Record Check and/or working with Children Check
• Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Resident or hold a valid working visa
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement
