About the Role
We are currently seeking a full-time Support Worker as well as several casual workers, for Jarrah Retreat which operates under close partnership between Life Without Barriers and Albury Wodonga Health.
Jarrah Retreat is a PARC service which provides an option of a short term live-in program (up to 28 day stay) to support people ages 16—64 years of age by providing recovery focussed mental health support. Jarrah Retreat is set in a peaceful and private location which provides an early intervention service for people who are becoming unwell and may avert an admission to an inpatient unit OR enables extended support for people who are recovering from an acute episode of mental illness which required an inpatient stay at either Nolan House or Kerferd Inpatient Unit. PARC services are referred to as a step-up fromliving at home or step-down from an inpatient unit, which aims to provide service users with the best possible care in a least restrictive environment.
You role will be to provide individual one-to-one psychosocial support services which focus on client determination, empowerment, hope and belief that recovery from a mental illness is possible. You will assist service users to work on their goal setting, recovery plans, and identify positive life choices in order to improve their well-being, while consulting with the clinical services of NEBMHS.
Key Responsibilities
• Support Clients to develop their own support plans in partnership with Life Without Barriers, Community Mental Health services and carers.
• Liaise and collaborate with Clients, their community and community support agencies such as mental health, housing and other services to ensure an integrated and timely service.
• Coordinate the delivery of services to Clients and work with the client to utilise other referral agencies and services.
• Provide individualised support within a recovery framework by helping Clients with their identified goals
• Observe and accurately record the client’s behaviour, needs and interactions with others.
• Maintain accurate case notes, up to date Action Plans and files.
• Effectively plan and organise own work effort and regularly provide feedback to the manager on their work progress.
• Work effectively with Clients to help identify and structure problems and implement effective solutions within a recovery framework.
• Comply with all Life Without Barriers policy, code of conduct, procedures and practices, external funding body requirements and legislation.
• Apply and uphold principles of equity and anti-discrimination in the workplace and adhere to organisational and legislative Health, Safety and Environment requirements.
Skills & Experience
• Minimum Cert IV in Mental Health or Diploma or higher qualifications in related fields.
• Have a comprehensive understanding of the Recovery Framework and the underlying principles.
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
• Possess a comprehensive knowledge of the issues faced by people with mental health issues.
• Demonstrated ability to positively engage, interact and work with people who have complex needs including a Psychiatric disability.
• Previous experience in working with people who have a mental health issue and/or other challenging issues e.g. homelessness, drug & alcohol etc.
• Have a clear understanding of the issues involved in working within a multidisciplinary team.
• A positive and proactive work attitude.
• Current Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain in first three (3) months of employment. Current Driver Licence.
• Ability to work on a 7 day rotating roster which may include weekends, after hours and public holidays as required.
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check.
