The Opportunity:
NIAA’s Digital and Data Branch is focused on supporting the Agency to build a high performance culture, particularly in data governance and management. We are looking for people who understand the importance of quality data, and good data management practices in enabling an agency to deliver influential policy advice and design programs that deliver great outcomes.
NIAA’s Digital Strategy and Data and Information Management Strategy set the foundation for our digital and data agenda. These roles at the EL1 and APS 6 level will suit people who like to get involved in a transformational project right at the beginning. We are seeking energetic problem solvers who are able to think creatively, generate ideas and analyse situations from a variety of perspectives.
This is an exciting opportunity if you want to further develop their policy or program management and delivery skills, by building your knowledge of how agency-wide data management supports delivering excellent outcomes. You will have an opportunity to support the delivery of outcomes for Indigenous Australians by supporting the development of digital capability and data governance.
Our Ideal Candidate
Generic required skills and capabilities:
- Demonstrated experience in planning, managing and delivering activities in a timely manner, including an understanding of risk management.
- Critical thinking skills and an ability to analyse information from a range of sources (including data) to identify gaps and suggest improvements.
- Ability to quickly understand the scope of NIAA’s key programs and activities.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and a demonstrated ability to develop positive and productive relationships across NIAA and with external stakeholders.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to tailor communication to different and diverse audiences.
- Well-developed organisational skills, including the ability to adapt to change, work with limited direction and manage competing priorities.
Additional desirable skills for the EL1 roles:
- Ability to assist lead a small team.
- Willingness to embrace challenges.
- Data literacy or a willingness and aptitude to build these skills.
- Experience in project management, including articulating objectives and purpose, setting timeframes, identifying risks and mitigation strategies, and defining resources required.

Eligibility:
- To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.
- The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
- The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
