About the Department of Rural Health
The Department of Rural Health is a department within the Melbourne Medical School at the University of Melbourne. The Department is based in Shepparton, Ballarat, Bendigo (in partnership with Monash University and La Trobe University) and Wangaratta and has associations with more than 40 smaller rural towns in Victoria. The key purpose of the Department is to provide professional health education and research training in a rural context with an aim to increase the rural health workforce.

The Department works closely with the local community and healthcare partners to ensure that we remain relevant and connected. Our partnerships underpin our teaching and research. The Department of Rural Health is funded primarily by the Australian Government Department of Health’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program. The aim of the RHMT program is to improve the recruitment and retention of health professionals in rural and remote Australia. The Department works towards this goal with various programs including: The Rural Clinical School, the University Department of Rural Health and The Goulburn Valley Regional Training Hub.

The Department also receives funding for other programs and research including the Centre for Excellence in Rural Sexual Health.

About the Role
This is a fixed term position until the end of 2024 and will be based in either Shepparton or Wangaratta. While this appointment is full time, there is flexibility to appoint at 0.8 FTE (salary will be pro rata for part time). 

The Administration and Events Officer is responsible for the administration of the daily operations of the Goulburn Valley Regional Training Hub (GVRTH) including; administration, event coordination and communications support.

The Administration and Events Officer will provide support to the implementation of the Regional Training Hub program by working with students, local health services, regional training organisations, general practice colleges, post graduate medical councils to support the integration of medical training at the local level.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Schedule and coordinate online and face to face meetings.
  • Track Hub expenditure and review monthly transactions.
  • Contribute to planning and organising events. Including sourcing quotes, booking venues, organising catering, booking travel and accommodation.
  • Support the Engagement Officer with event promotion including creating power point presentations, flyers, posting social media posts and updating website content.  

About You
Your strong communication skills will allow you to liaise with a range of people at all both externally and internally at all levels of the organisation. Providing quality customer service will be a passion of yours, able to do so within a complex working environment. You will have well developed organisation and time management skills, which allow you to complete multiple competing tasks to a high level within set deadlines. Experience with the University of Melbourne's systems and familiarity with relevant policies and procedures is desired, but not essential. 

Some work out of normal business hours may be required to support some events and functions.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • Completion of a degree, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training
  • Demonstrated initiative and strong problem solving skills with the ability to deliver creative solutions.
  • High level of proficiency in the use of standard application software such as the Microsoft Office suite
