About You

This position is located in the School of Property, Construction and Project Management. The School has a strong industry-focused approach to education and research, where people and companies from across industry become active supporters, advisors and participants in the education process. We also promote and maintain cooperative links with the global research community, providing excellent facilities for postgraduate research students and further strengthening industry and academic links.

One of our key research partners is the Future Fuels Cooperative Research Centre (FFCRC). FFCRC is the industry focussed Research, Development & Demonstration (RD&D) partnership enabling the decarbonisation of Australia's natural gas networks and working with partners in a collaborative and connected research community embracing industry, academia and government.

This position is specifically linked to FFCRC project RP2.1-10 Understanding householder electricity and gas practices – Managing the transition of vulnerable customers towards future fuels. Responding to the industry need to better understand how people use and trade off gas and electricity in their homes, this mixed methods study will explain householder energy consumption patterns and practices, how they feel about and respond to different energy sources, and how these are shaped by, or shape, vulnerability and affordability. The project involves multiple methods, including detailed monitoring of indoor temperatures, gas and electricity use in 48 households selected on the basis of specific demographic characteristics and collection of qualitative audio-visual and interview data regarding household energy use practices.

The successful candidate will work full time on the project for a period of 25 months, supported by other senior research academics from within the School and a keen group of industry advisers. Key tasks include liaison with industry to recruit householders to the study, building relationships and conducting householder interviews and integrating quantitative and qualitative data regarding energy use as well as report writing and general project management.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

* Experience in planning, conducting and analysis of interview-based research with householders

* Experience in quantitative research using and combining large data sets

* Research experience in building sciences and/or sociology of climate/energy

* Ability to critically conduct literature reviews

* Proficient in use of relevant software such as MSOffice, NVivo, SPSS, Tableau and Endnote

* Excellent report writing and academic writing skills

* Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and ability to build professional relationships within the FFCRC environment together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration

* Academic publication track record and recognition for quality research outputs which will contribute to the focus of the project.
