About the Department of Rural Health
The Department of Rural Health is a department within the Melbourne Medical School at the University of Melbourne. The Department is based in Shepparton, Ballarat, Bendigo (in partnership with Monash University and La Trobe University) and Wangaratta and has associations with more than 40 smaller rural towns in Victoria. The key purpose of the Department is to provide professional health education and research training in a rural context with an aim to increase the rural health workforce.

About the Goulburn Valley Regional Training Hub
The purpose of the Goulburn Valley Regional Training Hub (GVRTH) is to create a highly skilled workforce in the Goulburn Valley Region by attracting and retaining medical students and junior doctors. We do this by providing training opportunities, career development, mentoring and community networking events. Working with the Regional Training Hub Alliance, the GVRTH seeks to encourage development of rural training pathways for junior doctors.

About the Role
This is a fixed term position until the end of 2024. Working closely with an academic lead, the Manager GVRTH oversees the operational direction of all GVRTH programs and initiatives to meet the requirements of the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program.

The Manager, GVRTH will develop and implement programs, monitor progress throughout the year, evaluate outcomes and make recommendations for change. This position manages a small team of three professional staff to develop and implement the objectives of the program.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Ensure the GVRTH performance indicators (as specified in the University of Melbourne Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Agreement) are met or exceeded.
  • Lead the strengthening, and further development of strong partnerships with all health services in the local region
  • Manage and coordinate a range of GV Regional Training Hub programs and initiatives.

About You
You are an experienced manager with the ability to lead, motivate and engage staff to develop high performance and results, and a service-oriented culture within the team. You have strong organisational and program management skills, and experience in budget and resource management, and in the negotiation and execution of contracts. Your enthusiastic and flexible approach to work will place you in good stead for this role, as will your ability to analyse and problem solve.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) , including report writing.
  • High-level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated use of networks to identify and solve issues.
