Established in 2006, Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service (BWAHS) provides services and programs to Aboriginal people and families experiencing or at risk of experiencing family violence. Currently, BWAHS is one of 4 Aboriginal specific state-funded healing services in Victoria. BWAHs provides outreach services across the Eastern Metropolitan Region.
BWAHS has skilled, qualified staff and comprehensive experience with the culturally safe delivery of child, youth and family services for Aboriginal people. They provide family violence risk assessment, safety planning, case coordination and support, including referrals to the Risk Assessment Management Panel. They have developed an excellent record for providing high-quality family violence and trauma-informed Intensive Case Management, Integrated Family Services responses and evidence-based therapeutic programs to individuals and groups for a whole of family approach.
Boorndawan Willam derives from the Wathaurong and Woiwurrung languages. Boorndawan (Wathaurong), meaning 'safe' and Willam (Woiwurrung), meaning 'house', combine to create a 'safe house'. The healing service acknowledges the use of these words in the development of the organisation's name.
BWAHS is currently seeking a full-time Intensive Case Manager to join their team in Croydon, Melbourne, on a permanent full-time basis.
Provide family violence case management support and case coordination to Aboriginal women and their children in the East Metropolitan Region. The Intensive Case Manager will undertake comprehensive needs and risk assessments of women and their children.

To be considered for this role, you could have experience working in case management, Family Violence, or a related Community services sector.
BWAHS requests you hold a tertiary qualification relevant to this position or be excited at the opportunity to attend recognised training and development to obtain one.
Experience in case management or coordination preferred and supported opportunities to attend professional development to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics and impact of family violence in Aboriginal families and across the community. Your understanding of contemporary Aboriginal culture and the history of intergenerational trauma is a necessity for this role.
Empathy and understanding are essential for this role.
You will also need to navigate challenging situations with clients while supporting their strengths. You will have a theoretical understanding of the issues underpinning family violence and its relation to the cultural context.
Please note: You will need to hold or be willing to obtain a current National Police Check, Working with Children Check and basic First Aid Qualification. You will also need a current Driver's Licence.

Reporting to the Practice and Development Manager, provide individual counselling and family therapeutic counselling sessions for women impacted by family violence and intergenerational trauma.

To succeed in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, family therapy, or similar. You will also have demonstrated experience in the family violence sector or related areas.
You will need a clear understanding of the history of intergenerational trauma, including the issues underpinning family violence and therapeutic interventions in an Aboriginal cultural context.
You will be an approachable and empathetic communicator capable of adapting your approach to each individual. You will be able to engage women and families of varying ages, stages, and situations with complex needs.
You will be able to work both autonomously and as part of a diverse, driven team. Confident creating and maintaining solid relationships with other service providers or relevant organisations, you will support positive connection between participants and their families, culture, Country and Community, promoting healing and recovery.
Finally, you will need to demonstrate a practical understanding of the legislative, policy, and practice requirements of Aboriginal children, families, and communities impacted by family violence. You will also be able to work within these requirements and use a range of basic computer programs.

About the opportunity
The Senior Lecturer position has been created to support students in the Extended Bachelor Program commencing in 2022. This is a four-year degree for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to undertake studies in an academically and culturally supported environment. It provides students with an opportunity to make connections between in-depth discipline study and knowledge of culture and practice.
The degree includes a 12 month ‘Foundation year’, comprising foundational literacy and mathematics within the following new structures: Bachelor of Arts (Extended); Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Extended); and Bachelor of Science (Extended).
One additional year of study is offered in Block Mode (‘Away From Base’) to enable students to enjoy their learning in a supportive environment being gradually introduced to life on campus at The University of Sydney.
The Senior Lecturer – Extended Bachelor Program position sits within the Sydney School of Education and Social Work (SSESW) at the University of Sydney.
