About the role
The Academy of Sport, Health and Education (ASHE) is an initiative to improve the education, health and employment outcomes for Indigenous people. This includes ensuring ASHE provides a culturally rich and nurturing environment where students can be supported and challenged to take important next steps in their lives.
You will use your local cultural authority in leading a role in supporting the overall engagement of students and their families with the Academy, with a focus on supporting those students and families most at risk of disengaging from the program.
You will assist ASHE in the ongoing development of a culturally relevant curriculum, including relevant field trips, activities and training for students, staff and other organisations associated with ASHE.
About you
You will have:

The Civil Law Service for Aboriginal Communities (CLSAC) delivers legal services to specific Aboriginal communities and correctional centres across NSW that are responsive to their legal, social and cultural needs. Through outreach and phone services, CLSAC aims to provide high quality advice and casework services to Aboriginal people that deliver better outcomes for people's everyday lives. It works with Aboriginal communities and community workers to increase their capacity to deal with civil law problems as they arise and to work in partnership with other legal and non-legal services. The team manages a diverse and demanding workload and commonly handles consumer law, housing, Centrelink, fines and human rights matters. It also engages in strategic advocacy about systemic issues facing Aboriginal people across NSW. 
 

This position is to service north west NSW including Bourke and Brewarrina. There is scope for the position to be located in Sydney or a regional office location in Central or North West NSW.

ABOUT YOU

 

The successful applicant will be a lawyer who has experience working with Aboriginal clients and communities and has a passion for addressing the social justice issues facing communities across NSW. The applicant will be willing to travel to rural and remote NSW for up to 5 days at a time and have community development or project skills that enable them to work collaboratively and creatively.

  • Recognised Trade Certificate III of Proficiency (Electrical Fitter)

The selection process will include a range of comparative assessment techniques to assist in determining capability and suitability for the role.

This recruitment will be used to fill any current vacancies and may be used to create a Talent Pool for similar future vacancies that may arise over the next 12 months.
