Deputy Director Indigenous Health

The Role
The Department of Defence is a key supporter of the Commonwealth National Agreement on Closing the Gap with our commitments outlined in the Defence Reconciliation Action Plan (D-RAP) 2019-2022. The D-RAP includes 61 key actions to support Indigenous personnel, communities and businesses.

As a valued member of our Directorate, you will play a key role in supporting Joint Health Command through the coordination, design and delivery of health initiatives to advance the health outcomes of Australian Defence Force (ADF) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

You will lead the promotion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health projects, showing awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture within the ADF and wider community.

Key accountabilities:

  • Determine requirements in areas of Indigenous Health (eg. needs analysis) and present briefing packs accordingly;
  • Identify, develop, nurture and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders and employ a collaborative approach to drive positive outcomes;
  • Lead the development and implementation of Indigenous Health initiatives across the Defence Health workforce (eg. Health promotion activities);
  • Support the ongoing evaluation of implementation and strategies to ensure continuous improvement and contribution towards Closing the Gap initiatives.
  • Strengthen policies and practices; and
  • Maintain culturally appropriate health education and information promoting health and wellbeing for Indigenous Australians across the ADF Health Workforce.

The current position is ongoing however we will be creating a merit pool to fill similar ongoing and non-ongoing positions that become available within the next 12 months.

About our Team
The Directorate of Defence Health People Reform (DHPR) was established in June 2020 as part of the Operational Health Branch within Joint Health Command. The DHPR is responsible to the Commander Joint Health in their capacity as the Joint Workforce Sponsor. Our goal is to oversee the Defence health workforce (e.g. doctors, nurses, medics and dentist etc.) to meet Defence priorities and operational requirements. We work in collaboration with the Services (Navy, Army and Air Force), Joint Health Command and Defence People Group to drive reform in all areas relating to the Defence Health workforce.

About The Role
* Further Programming is an undergraduate Bachelor level course that provides students with and advanced understanding of Object-Orientated software development with a focus on* Architecture and Design and how this relates to programming and implementation. As an online tutor you will be building upon students' existing programming knowledge using Java as the implementation platform.
* You will further assist students in other aspects of their projects, including critical thinking, problem-solving development methods, team work and effective communication.
* Our Online Tutors deliver pre-planned academic content using the Canvas Learning Management System. An Online Tutor is not expected to create or add content to a course. 
* As an Online Tutor your role will include three functions: the delivery of pre-planned academic content; facilitating learning activities and assessments tasks, which will include webinars, online discussion boards and assessments/feedback and the moderation, marking, processing, and submitting of assessment results.

* Online Tutors delivering a Bachelor's level course must have a Master's degree in a suitable content area for the course. Qualifications should be accompanied by relevant industry experience. 

Teaching experience in higher education context, especially online, is highly desirable and candidates who have 3+ years of work experience are highly valued. If you're able to provide examples of previous Good Teaching Scores (or equivalent) this will be further beneficial.

About the role(s):

The Indigenous Health Equity Unit at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health is seeking to appoint four Research Assistant/Fellows. The successful applicant/s will be expected to contribute to supporting, developing and managing a program of research and work as part of an Aboriginal-led interdisciplinary research team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous researchers.  The successful applicant/s will benefit from working with a large network of investigators, partners and stakeholders.

The positions represent an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic research team and support research relevant to the urgent public health issues of intergenerational trauma and improving health equity.   You will have experience in supporting academic researchers, have experience working in the field of supporting families or social and emotional wellbeing (in practice, policy or both), and have highly developed communication skills (written and oral). The positions will be provided with a supportive culture where applicants can further develop these skills.

As well as contributing to the overall work of the team and emerging opportunities, each role will have a specific portfolio focus tailored to the interests and skills of the successful applicant/s, including:

  1. Oversight and conduct of quantitative data collection, data analysis, including psychometric evaluation, preparing manuscripts for publication and assisting with preparing grant applications.

About You
As one of two newly appointed Continuous Improvement Managers, you will lead a culture of business excellence through the design and implementation of projects and initiatives focused on improving service experience, reducing effort and uplifting maturity. You will provide support to the Senior Manager and Enterprise Projects and Business Performance team utilising expertise and leadership needed to deliver continuous improvement projects and initiatives via an agreed pipeline.

As an effective influencer, you will work closely with senior stakeholders, as an internal consultant and mentor to stimulate innovative thinking by posing new ways of doing things. Using data analysis to determine the root cause of issues, you will lead initiatives to drive improvements and embed solutions into BAU using continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma and Human Centered Design disciplines

Additionally, you will be responsible for end-to-end delivery of prioritised CI projects and tactical improvement initiatives across multiple portfolios across the whole university, such as Higher Education, Research & Innovation, Vocational education and core operations such as HR, Finance, Procurement and Information Technology.

To be successful in this position, you'll have as a minimum:
* Extensive Demonstrated experience of delivering benefits by effectively leading complex initiatives and projects with significant change impact and diverse stakeholder groups.
* A highly effective communicator with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, significant experience, building trusting and respectful constructive relationships that align areas behind common goals and create cross functional collaboration.
* Fluent with data-driven analysis and performance metrics including data visualisations for Executive and Leadership presentations.

About the role
Are you an experienced placement coordinator with a background in nursing? Are you looking for a fast-paced, impactful role where you can add significant value to our students? If so, our Health Clinical Placement Coordinator role could be the right opportunity for you.

You will undertake a key role in coordinating clinical placements for students enrolled in our health programs, incorporating placements across nursing, allied health, aged care and dental. You will also provide regular support to students throughout their placements whilst collaborating with Health providers, Program Managers and Coordinators, ensuring an effective and positive working relationship.

In addition to the above, some of your accountabilities will include:
– Managing the collection, follow-up, and data entry of students' assessment forms throughout each placement
– Conducting assessment of students on placement where required and maintain ownership of assessment and certification of students
– Managing the distribution of requests for external placements, compiling and tracking offers received, and confirming placement offers
– Coordinating and maintaining efficient systems and processes relating to students' placement details, including placement allocations, placement dates, and ranges of experiences
– Managing day-to-day questions from students, Teachers and other external stakeholders relating to placement allocations and rostering

About you
With a background in placement coordination, ideally within nursing, you will be able manage conflicting priorities with ease whilst being able to effectively interact with students and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

We are also looking for:
– A current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and Bachelor of Nursing
– Proven ability to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
– Relevant experience and networks within industry (nursing specifically)
– Experience with Student databases, specifically InPlace and Placeright (formerly viCPlace)
– An understanding of the students at risk process, special consideration process and equivalent learning and assessment strategies
– Effective interpersonal and communication skills, presentation, facilitation and counselling skills
– Sound knowledge and understanding of the vocational education and training sector

The successful applicant will be appointed between a Teacher 2 (T2) – Senior Educator 1 (SE1) depending on qualifications. Salary Loading will be applied to $107,263 as a Senior Educator Level 1.

About You
The SSO will work collaboratively with the higher apprenticeships project team, Future Social Services Institute, our delivery team, industry, and students to support the coordination of the project program structures and delivery models for higher apprentices.
 
The role will excel at providing customer service to staff and students to assist in the coordination of, and participation in, activities including, but not limited to, student lifecycle services, course and program management activities, information management, events and process improvement activities. The role will be responsible for the management and resolution of complex queries from staff and students and will be required to maintain productive working relationships to provide timely solutions.
 
To be successful in this position, you'll have as a minimum:
* Highly developed interpersonal skills and proven ability to build and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
* Excellent problem-solving skills, including demonstrated experience developing and delivering complex written reports to a high standard and with a high level of attention to detail.
* Demonstrated experience in providing high quality customer service to internal and external stakeholders and experience managing complex queries in a fast-paced, large scale environment.
* High level oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to demonstrate flexibility and initiative, by working independently and with limited direction, as well as effectively within a dynamic small team environment.
* Proven significant administrative experience in planning, organising and prioritising work in a busy environment with multiple and conflicting priorities and competing deadlines.
* Demonstrated expertise in developing, recommending and implementing changes and improvements to administrative procedures and functions.
* Demonstrated ability to use information and communication technologies effectively, including Microsoft suite, web and email software and database use.
