GOD IS WORTHY of our praise and worship day and night

Based on texts prepared by Mike Bickle and Bob Hartley.

Consider the reasons you have to worship God. Proclaim His goodness to all!

Exodus 34:5-7 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the LORD. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation."

Nehemiah 9:17-18 They refused to listen and failed to remember the miracles you performed among them. They became stiff-necked and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery. But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them, even when they cast for themselves an image of a calf and said, 'This is your god, who brought you up out of Egypt,' or when they committed awful blasphemies.

Psalm 130:6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 23:3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Psalm 29:2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.

Psalm 96:9 Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.

Psalm 50:2-3 From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth. Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages.

Isaiah 49:13 Shout for joy, O heavens; rejoice, O earth; burst into song, O mountains! For the LORD comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.

Isaiah 51:11 The ransomed of the LORD will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

Zephaniah 3:16-20 On that day they will say to Jerusalem, "Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands hang limp. The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." "The sorrows for the appointed feasts I will remove from you; they are a burden and a reproach to you. At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you; I will rescue the lame and gather those who have been scattered. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they were put to shame. At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes," says the LORD.

Matthew 9:36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Romans 8:38-39 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 4:16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.

1 Corinthians 4-7 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Galatians 6:22-23  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

God’s holiness and graciousness compels us to worship Him day and night.

Isaiah 6:3 And they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory."

Revelation 4:8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."

Isaiah 56:5-8 ..to them I will give within my temple and its walls a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that will not be cut off. And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD to serve him, to love the name of the LORD, and to worship him, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant- these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations." The Sovereign LORD declares—he who gathers the exiles of Israel: "I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered."

Isaiah 62:1,6,7 For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch. I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.

Zechariah 8:18-22 Again the word of the LORD Almighty came to me. This is what the LORD Almighty says: "The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah. Therefore love truth and peace." This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Many peoples and the inhabitants of many cities will yet come, and the inhabitants of one city will go to another and say, 'Let us go at once to entreat the LORD and seek the LORD Almighty. I myself am going.' And many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to entreat him."

2 Chronicles 5:12-14 All the Levites who were musicians—Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun and their sons and relatives—stood on the east side of the altar, dressed in fine linen and playing cymbals, harps and lyres. They were accompanied by 120 priests sounding trumpets. The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang:   "He is good; his love endures forever." Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of God.

2 Chronicles 7:1-6 When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple. 2 The priests could not enter the temple of the LORD because the glory of the LORD filled it. 3 When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the LORD above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the LORD, saying, "He is good; his love endures forever." Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD. And King Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty-two thousand head of cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats. So the king and all the people dedicated the temple of God. The priests took their positions, as did the Levites with the LORD's musical instruments, which King David had made for praising the LORD and which were used when he gave thanks, saying, "His love endures forever." Opposite the Levites, the priests blew their trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.

2 Chronicles 20:20-22,28 Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful." After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: "Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever." As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.

Psalm 22:3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel.

Psalm 27:4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, and to seek him in his temple.

Psalm 92:1-2 It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night,

Psalms 134:1 Praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD who minister by night in the house of the LORD.

Psalms 135:1-3 Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD; praise him, you servants of the LORD, you who minister in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God. Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant.

Isaiah 55:12 You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

1 John 4:7-20 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.

Revelation 5:8-10 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song:   "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,    and they will reign on the earth."

God has appointed watchmen over the city.

Isaiah 52:8 Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the LORD returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes.

Isaiah 56:10 Israel's watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.

Isaiah 62:6 I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest,

Jeremiah 6:17 I appointed watchmen over you and said, 'Listen to the sound of the trumpet!' But you said, 'We will not listen.'

Jeremiah 31:6 There will be a day when watchmen cry out on the hills of Ephraim, 'Come, let us go up to Zion, to the LORD our God.' "

Jeremiah 51:12 Lift up a banner against the walls of Babylon! Reinforce the guard, station the watchmen, prepare an ambush! The LORD will carry out his purpose, his decree against the people of Babylon.

Micah 7:4 The best of them is like a brier, the most upright worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen has come, the day God visits you. Now is the time of their confusion.

Ezekiel 3:17 "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.

Ezekiel 33:6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.'

Hosea 9:8 The prophet, along with my God, is the watchman over Ephraim, yet snares await him on all his paths, and hostility in the house of his God.

John 10:3 The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

CITY TRANSFORMATION by Francis Frangipane

Amazingly when Christ is manifested in power, Jesus said even Sodom could find repentance!

It is not God who hinders the healing of our land. Rather it is our apathy, our own unbelief, that keeps us from grasping the potential offered in the Gospel of Christ! Do not marvel when I say entire cities can be saved. The Scripture tells us (in Isaiah 60:1-3) that nations will come to our light and kings to the brightness of our rising!

All we lack is Christ likeness!

"He then began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent" (Matthew 11:20). Jesus has a word to say, not only to us as individuals, but to entire cities as well. In anger He rebuked Chorazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum (Matthew 11:21); with tears, He cried out to Jerusalem (Luke 13:34). If Jesus expected cities to repent in the first century, Heexpects cities today to repent as well.

It was in this very context of reproving cities, however, that Jesus made a statement which unveiled the escope of God's redemptive power. Listen to His rebuke, but also to its hidden promise. He said, "For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes" (Matthew 11:21).Tyre and Sidon were Gentile cities known for their debauchery and sin. Yet, Jesus said that His life, revealed in power, can bring even the vilest of cities, places which ought to be destroyed, to "sackcloth and ashes." The strategy, therefore, to win our cities is for the Church to reveal Christ's life in power. Yes, the revelation of Christ in us as individuals, and the power of Christ displayed corporately through us, can turn our worst cities back toward God!

Today, many cities are ripe for revival. What hinders the turning of the people's hearts? Part of the answer lies with the Church, with our sins of self-righteousness, indifference, and unbelief. The Lord said if His people would humble themselves and pray, seek His face and turn from evil, He would then heal their land (see 2 Chronicles 7:14). The future does not belong to the world; it belongs to the transformed Church. Indeed, let us never forget: God "desires all men to be saved" (1 Timothy 2:4). With this in mind, Paul taught that entreaties and prayers should be made on behalf of all men, "for kings and all who are in authority" (1 Timothy 2:1-4). The sacrifice of Christ provides for the salvation of all men. Heaven waits only for the Church to act. One may say, "But, that was then. Our cities are worse. They are beyond redemption." Not so. Jesus continued His rebuke of cities, saying, "If the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day" (Matthew 11:23). Amazingly, when Christ is manifested in power, Jesus said even Sodom could find repentance! I have heard many ministers compare Los Angeles or New York to Sodom. Good. These cities have seen hell, now let the Church show them Heaven. They need to see Jesus revealed in His Church. The promise of Christ is that even Sodom could repent in the atmosphere and revelation of Christ's power. If there is hope for Sodom, there is hope for your city as well!

The Obstruction to Revival: Complacency

When we picture cities, we tend to see skylines and factories, streets and schools. Jesus, however, sees people. He beholds husbands arguing with wives while their children tremble in fear. He sees drugs being sold on playgrounds and teenagers having abortions. He suffers at the bedside of the infirm. The heart of Christ grieves with the loneliness of the elderly and identifies with the struggles of the handicapped. Yes, the eyes of the Lord probe the spirit and humanity of the city. From His eternal perspective, He also beholds the most terrible event known to man. He sees the overwhelming horror, the utter despair an unsaved person experiences as he realizes he is, indeed, dead and going to hell. And, in the midst of it all, He sees the Church–His Church, purchased at the cost of His own precious blood–sitting comfortably and amused, remote control in hand, watching television. Jesus does not have a problem with the hot or cold dimensions of life. It is the lukewarm that He will spew from His mouth (Revelation 3:15-16). What stopped the cities of Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum- communities that already had the blessing of Christ's healing–from embracing ongoing renewal? They assumed Christ's love was given only to enrich them. All they saw were the rewards of Christ without understanding His requirements.

The Church today is frighteningly similar in attitude to these ancient cities. The majority of the first century saints gave their lives to Christ with the full knowledge they would face persecution, suffering and, possibly, death for their faith. Such was the character and vision of the Church in the first century. The main emphasis of much of our Christianity, however, is to help believers become "normal." So much of our contemporary teaching keeps alive the very nature Jesus calls us to crucify! We need to re-evaluate our preaching. Are we preaching the Cross and the call to follow Jesus? What are we training our people to become?

Please hear me, the Father's goal is not merely to bless us, but to transform us into the image of His Son! He desires to use us to turn our cities back to Him. But God has made no provision for the healing of our land apart from us becoming Christlike! Once we realise this vital truth, we shall return to the source of New Testament Christianity, and our cities will have hope for redemption. When the Church demonstrates the love and power of Christ, repentance and revival can occur even in a place like Sodom.

Lord, forgive us for our unbelief and apathy. You have promised that even Sodom would come to You at the revelation of Your character and power. Transform us, Lord Jesus, for the sake of Your glory and the renewal of our cities.

"We are entering times when human authority and control over events will continue to erode and collapse.  However, as Christians we have another kingdom that cannot be shaken.  If we build our lives on His kingdom, we will not only rejoice and prevail in these times, we will be able to save many others as well.  We must now obey the command to 'seek first the kingdom, and His righteousness.'  We will forever by glad that we did."  Rick Joyner

Where there are two, they are not without God, and where there is one alone, I say I am with him. Raise the stone and there thou shalt find me; cleave the wood and there I am. Let not him who seeks cease until he finds, and when he finds he shall be astonished. Astonished he shall reach the Kingdom, and having reached the Kingdom, he shall rest. And the Kingdom of heaven is within you and whosoever knoweth himself shall find it. And, having found it, ye shall know yourselves that ye are sons and heirs of the Father, the Almighty, and shall know yourselves that ye are in God and God in you. And ye are the City of God. From: Mysticism – A Study and an Anthology by F.C. Happold

We are not called to anything except to be Christ in our world. That is the meaning of the Incarnation and the meaning of the Cross. He died and rose again that He might live in us and bring many sons unto glory by us. Once the reality of ''I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me'' has overtaken us, there is ONLY Christ. We have died and risen again IN HIM, not ''in ourselves,'' and what has emerged from that grave is a completely NEW MAN, a new CREATION, created in RIGHTEOUSNESS after the image of He who did the creating. What has come forth from the grave is not just a resurrected Jesus, but a resurrected humanity, a humanity which has been raised into the Godhead, which now sits at the right hand of the Father in the midst of the throne. That resurrected humanity in this world has been left in weakness, and not yet seeing all that to which is it heir. But that does not change the FACT that OUR humanity — spirit, soul, and body — IS NOW MADE the INSTRUMENT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. Not by what we can do, by what we know, by how well we can regurgitate scriptural knowledge and doctrinal precepts, but purely and simply because He has now made us accepted in the Beloved, chosen in Him before the foundations of the earth, and that in Him IN OUR WEAKNESS we are heir to ALL THINGS. PRAYER GROUPS THAT TRANSFORM CITIES.

Transformation is a gift of God, not a consequence of programming but these are elements that facilitate our ability to receive God’s transformation. We long to see prayer groups across the city where people who hunger to encounter God’s presence, revelation and intervention will be drawn into adoration and transformation and from where they’ll carry God’s transformational presence to our city.

Loving God with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength….

WORSHIP GOD with ADORATION. Worship in ‘proskuneo in NT Greek means ‘to kiss toward’ and implies a deep emotional response toward God. (Psalm 95:6) Our worship connects us intimately with God and heaven (Revelation 5:11) when we express our adoration of Him in music, prayer and testimony. When we declare aloud before God, each other and witnesses (Hebrews 12:1) the Scriptural characteristics of God this builds our understanding of a true image of God, our trust and confidence in God and His promises and a growing understanding of and respect for God’s perspective, His will, His holy righteousness, His compassionate mercy and His power. (Psalm 111:10, Isaiah 55:8-9) Knowing God as our Father builds assurance in our identity as children and heirs of His promise and power. (Philippians 4:13) We are utterly secure in the victory of Jesus Christ and His indwelling. (1Corinthians 15:57, Galatians 2:20) It’s in the place of thanksgiving and praise that God conceives within us His mind and heart for our city." Dawson p125 (2 Chronicles 20:21-22)

RESTING IN GOD’S PRESENCE. Rather than building God’s house our way and filling our schedules with our agendas, we need to wait on God, focused on Him, seeking His face and His manifest presence to fill His house. (2Chronicles 5:13-14) We need time free of programming and even speaking to rest and soak in His presence and His Word, (Ecclesiastes 5:2) and listening to His Holy Spirit’s revelation. (John 8:47, Joshua 24:24, Psalm 81:13-14) When we encounter God we are convicted to repent of our sin. (Psalm 66:18, Joshua 3:5, 1Peter4:17) Our perspectives change so we can discern the deceptions and accusations of the enemy. We see people, cities and events as God sees them. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18) Our attitudes are transformed (Psalm 139:23-24, 1Corinthians 2:16) and we lay down our judgements and agreement with the accuser. (Proverbs 3:4-6, Zephaniah 3:14-15) We are to depend completely on God and expect His miraculous intervention. (John 15:5, Hebrews 1:14)

PROCLAMATION & THANKSGIVING. When we know God and He has revealed His will and what we are up against, (Ephesians 6:12, 2Corinthians 10:4,5) we know what to claim and can boldly declare God’s will into being. (Daniel 11:32, Acts 4:31, John 12:49-50) Once we have discerned the nature of the enemy’s lie we are to exercise the authority of Jesus to isolate people from religious spirits and demonic oppression and activity. Power is released through praise and proclamation! (Psalm 149:5-9, 2Chronicles 20:21-22) We will glorify Him with our thanksgiving in all circumstances, giving Him all the glory for all He has done. (Ephesians 5:20)

Loving others as ourselves…

INTERCESSION & SUPPLICATION. It is by God’s grace that we can persistently intercede for our cities. (Nehemiah 1:4, 2Corinthians 1:6, 4:10-12, Hebrews 6:15, Ezekial 3:8-9) We are utterly reliant on God’s leading so we’ll know what to pray (John 15:7, Romans 8:26) and can pray in agreement with God and each other. (Matthew 18:18-19) God’s leading reveals the timing (1Chronicles 12:32) and His specific strategies for spiritual warfare and evangelism. (Matthew 12:28-29) God’s revelation enables us to recognise the specific vulnerabilities and God’s destiny for our city. (Nehemiah 1:3) In humility we confess the sins of our city. (2Chronicles 34:27, Nehemiah 1:6-7, Ezra 9:6), encounter the opposition that God allows, triumph in the authority of Jesus (Luke 10:19-20) and are sustained by God’s love which triumphs over fear. (Joshua 1:9, Psalm 3:3-6, Galatians 5:6, 1John 4:4) We love those we pray for -that’s why we love our enemies if we pray for them.

PERSONAL PRAYER MINISTRY & PRACTICAL SERVICE. We need to cultivate real, authentic, grounded, accountable and loving relationships with each other. Prayer groups would do well to value time spent in personal greetings, having a cuppa and connecting authentically with each other’s needs and understandings of God’s leadings. Whether these are conducted within group gatherings, or by appointment at other times, we need to maintain processes for individual prayer ministry and prophetic encouragement for salvation, transformation and healing. (James 5:16) Prayer is not a sufficient response. God will lead us into practical actions – forgiveness, reconciliation, financial donation, restitution, social justice, serving, helping. (2Corinthians 5:14)

Quotes from John Dawson, Taking Our Cities for God.

Our new vision of a Christian mission must focus on cities. If we want to bring nations to Christ, we must win their cities… The cities are the hearts and minds of the nation, the place where the national myth is enshrined.’ P17

‘God anticipated the development of your city. He marked out a place for it’ in the topography and times. (Psalm 48:1-2, Acts 17:26-27)P23

We are to survey the damage and receive God’s discernment of the weakness of our city. (Nehemiah 2:13, Ezra 4:15) List of questions p58- Note: p66-67

We are to prevail at the city gates -the places of entrance, authority and decision to see God’s will established in the city. (Genesis 22:17,Ecclesiastes 9:14-15, Isaiah 62:10) ‘When the churches of a city are in unity, they have great power to tear Satan’s kingdom up by the roots on a citywide level.’ P56 ‘An individual ministry or church can achieve a cone of victory within its sphere of service, but the prevailing evil spirits will dominate the secular culture unhindered until the principle of agreement based on harmony in relationships is employed. P71(Mark 3:24)

‘Satan would scatter us to the four winds or join us in a false unity that stifles the freedom of the church in all its diversity. God’s kingdom is a kingdom of liberty in which everything is permitted unless specifically prohibited. Satan’s kingdom is a controlled hierarchy in which nothing is permitted unless authorized.’p75-76

‘I have yet to see the leadership of one of these 9city wide) coalitions form into a permanent eldership with God’s blessing upon it. It seems that each year God anoints new leadership with a fresh vision. ..we are not to have a permanent city wide structure.. p76-77..pluraity… eldership…The kingdom of God is truly established when a circle of believes is joined together in covenant love.’ P77 A prime responsibility of an elder is to nurture affectionate relationships with other elders so that no gap is left for the entrance of then enemy.p78

‘We have learned that our relationships with one another form the invisible walls of the city and that broken relationships or lack of relationship can hinder the effectiveness of our prayers.’ P80
