MARRIAGE WEEK IN AUSTRALIA

Marriage Week is a great time to reassess marriage. A time to see that it is more than a piece of paper, a word, or a contract. Marriage is a relational institution that makes two people one entity – a great team. Our marriages are not private matters. Our children, gain emotional security and a myriad of benefits from our marriage, our love and union. Our marriages matter to our extended family. They matter to our employers. They matter to society. They are the fabric that holds families together. On average married people live longer and have good relationships with their children; families enjoy better physical health, married men earn more money. Wow, that puts a lot of weight on marriage! PRAYER AND PARTYING THROUGH THE NIGHT OF POWER

Ramadan is a time when Muslims fast, pray and seek spiritual rejuvenation.  On the ‘Night of Power,’ 16th September or thereabouts, many Muslims spend the night in prayer, believing God to answer their prayers on this night.  Because of this, it is a good time to pray for Muslims throughout the world.  Join in fasting during the day if you’d like, then start the evening at 6pm with dinner – bring a dish and drink to share.  Come when you can, leave when you must.  Speakers and singing, strong coffee and refreshments through the night.  Wednesday 16th September @ The Hub Community Centre, 35-39 Colebrook St, Brunswick.  (Melways map 29, G5)  For more information: 0488 101 460 or 0488 101 470.  5.30am cooked breakfast for all who’d like it.

BOOK LAUNCH – IDEALOGICAL JIHAD BY VICKIE JANSON

Book Launch at the Hub Community Centre, 35-39 Colebrook St, Brunswick at 7.30pm. Ideological Jihad springs from the desire of Christian author Vickie Janson to better understand the ideas and beliefs of her Muslim friends and neighbours. It explores the impact of Islam on western societies, with partic reference to Australia. Presented as an open letter to Waleed Aly, author of the influential book People Like Us: How arrogance is dividing Islam and the West. But it is much more than that – it is important reading for anybody interested in the effects of a culture clash between Islam and a western society with Christian foundations – whether that society be Australia, New Zealand or any other western nation.

See: http://marriageweek.org.au/

SURRENDER:10

At Belgrave Heights Convention Centre. SURRENDER is now run by a group of passionate organisations including the original founders, UNOH as well as Concern Australia, Djaywunti (A network of Indigenous ministries), Just Salvos (the social justice department of the Salvation Army), TEAR Australia, Urban Seed & the Victorian Council of Christian Education (VCCE). We’ve also got some great new partner groups and churches coming on board to see the life changing message of SURRENDER continue. It’s our prayer that SURRENDER will:Help inspire and equip you and your church to connect with those facing poverty in your local communities, Present a theology and practical steps to help address issues facing Indigenous Australians, Highlight examples of incarnational and integral mission as well as training opportunities, Provide an informal environment to explore these issues further. enquiries@surrender.org.au or call 0403 177 995.
