Foundations

We honour all that God did through Melbourne Pastor’s Network and Transforming Melbourne and all those – especially Rev Rob Isaachsen – who contributed deeply to the mobilisation of a movement of people who hungered for Jesus’ kingdom to transform us and our city. Rob Isaachsen continues to foster strategic leadership and discipleship. robisaachsen@optusnet.com.au

Through Transforming Melbourne a foundation was built on authentic, transparent, trustworthy relationships between pastors and leaders and across churches and denominations. Together we raised kingdom vision, evangelism and mission, and faith that life will become more abundant for all citizens of Melbourne as they choose Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

Toward the end of 2010 the team led by Sue Tinworth discerned that the season of Melbourne Pastor’s Network and Transforming Melbourne was coming to an end. We chose to make space for the new way God would move in the next season. We understood that rather than using a centralised task force, God would raise up a diversity of connected networks with multiple ‘faceless’ servant leaders and diverse, fresh strategies. By faith, we entered a time of resting for recovery from the hard years of the Research project, All Melbourne Matters; waiting and watching for what our Father was doing so we could join Him in it.

John 12:24Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2,11 To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;

He has made everything beautiful in its time.

Momentum is now building! These are the days we waited for!

Across multiple emergent networks across the city and nation – we see our Father is:

      • doing awesome things across our city – healings, miracles, salvations and reconciliations
      • mobilising us to join together in united prayer and worship
      • equipping and aligning us as an army of warriors with fresh revelation, and
      • connecting us as channels of Jesus’ power and grace to every street in our city.

Are you looking for opportunities to be involved?

If you are longing for this and not yet seeing it, join with us in ongoing relationship to co-discern and respond to what is on our Father’s heart for Melbourne – His strategy and timing.

If we each simply fulfil our assigned part in His plan – Jesus’ rule will flow life to our city and beyond.

Our Lord wants this because He loves the people of Melbourne so much!

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER FOR THE PERSECUTED CHURCH/SUFFERING SUNDAY

Each year, millions of Christians around the world join in praying for the persecuted church – over 200,000,000 (thats two hundred million) Christians who are not at liberty to live and practise their faith, because of persecution. The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church is a time set apart for us to remember thousands of our Christian brothers and sisters around the world who suffer persecution, simply because they confess Jesus Christ as Lord. For IDOP 2009, please reserve Sunday 08 (or 15) November 2009 as the day of prayer for the persecuted church. See www.idop.org closer to the time.
See also “Suffering Church Sunday” resourced by ideas to observe this day at Barnabas Fund website www.barnabasfund.org/scs , on a Sunday of choice during November.

Directory of Christian Ministries ( overview)

THE DIRECTORY OF CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES IN MELBOURNE (Overview)

A Resource for all levels of Mission, Ministry in Melbourne

An On-Line Interactive Directory of Christian Ministries, Organisations, Denominations, Churches and Networks in Melbourne to support all parts of the Church in serving our City.

This unique Directory has taken 18 months to develop. It is a resource for local churches, organisations, leaders and individual Christians to provide easy access to the multitudes of ministry and mission organizations and resources across the Church in Melbourne. It will enable organizations and churches working in similar areas of ministry to be aware of each other and share resources and vision. It reveals the great riches of resources and ministries working in so many areas that there are in the Church in our city.

IT IS A “LIVE DIRECTORY”

At present there are over 1300 organisations and over 1700 churches.

Many organizations not on the Directory as yet will soon hear of it, and be able to add their details. Some of the details on the Directory will be initially out of date, and organizations will be able to correct and update their own details. Churches will be able to list major ministries they offer to other churches and the wider community.

HOW IT WORKS:

The many organizations, ministries and churches in this Directory are easily accessible from the Transforming Melbourne website: www.transformingmelbourne.org

CLICK the DIRECTORY link

The ministry, organization or church you are looking for is found quickly by typing in the name of the organization, or the category you are looking for and scrolling though the list. You can make the search tighter by adding other categories and the suburb you are looking for. (eg “youth” and “Counselling” and “Richmond“)

You can look for churches by typing in the denomination or just “church” and the suburb.

ACCESS IS BY SUBSCRIPTION

A small annual subscription is payable to enable the on-going development and maintenance of the Directory, to continually improve it and make it more useful to you.

However, a list of all 1700 churches and their basic details is available free from a link on the TM site.

HOW TO SUBSCRIBE

Go on-line to www.transformingmelbourne.org CLICK the Directory link. And then: Subscribe

On this new secure website, Enter your name, email and a password

Fill in the payment details, and press “Subscribe Now

You will immediately receive a receipt, with confirmation of your subscription and your password. Then you can go back to the Directory link on the TM site, press Access Directory, and be able to carry out your first search!

The Melbourne Indigenous Church

The Melbourne Indigenous Church: A Story of Hope (Anne Green)

With eyes of faith one can see that the Indigenous Community of Melbourne is beginning to emerge out of a time of spiritual barrenness.

A quick glance across the 15,000-strong Indigenous community of Melbourne reveals only 2 small Indigenous fellowships regularly meeting together, although there are several other ministries happening and Indigenous churches in some regional centres outside Melbourne. As in the Non-Indigenous Church, these ministries that do exist, though aware of one another, are mostly like puzzle pieces not yet linked together into the Body of Christ.

However, a deeper look into the Melbourne Indigenous Community, with some understanding of the spiritual history of this region, uncovers a story of hope:

Seeds……
Seeds of the gospel have been faithfully sown across the Indigenous community of Melbourne for generations. Indigenous Australians are reportedly the most evangelised people group on the planet.  Many of those seeds, sown initially by missionaries and Indigenous leaders of the past, have sprung up to revival in former generations. Other seeds lie dormant. Where in this barren place are the wells of life-giving water to bring growth to these seeds?

Wells…..
Spirit-filled Indigenous Christian leaders, past and present have left their legacy in the Indigenous community of Melbourne. Deep ancient wells of God’s Spirit remain, waiting to be re-dug.

Prayer…
Recently, God has raised up an Indigenous prayer network to support, encourage and link together Melbourne Indigenous ministries.  Through the commitment and intercession of a growing group of Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Christians across the city, the needs of the Indigenous Church are being heard and prayers answered. Old wells are being re-dug and seeds watered.

Wheat and Tares…
Along with the seeds of ‘wheat’ the evil one has planted seeds of destruction in the Indigenous community of Melbourne. We must never forget that we and our ancestors have been partner to this along with bringing the words of eternal life in Jesus.  Indigenous people in this city still today are crushed by the ongoing harvest of evil sown into their lives and the lives of their forebears.  It is the role of the people of God in this city to unravel and reveal the sins of the past and plead the forgiveness and blood of Jesus over the destruction done sometimes even in the name of Christ.  The destroyer must also be identified and rebuked.

A flourishing Indigenous Church will emerge in this City and healing will begin in the Name of Jesus.

Then the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings (Malachi 4:2)…..which reminds us of the Indigenous flag – a sign of hope…. and Jesus, Light of the World and coming Saviour King.
